The King's Troop was formed after the end of the Second World War, when His Majesty King George VI requested the restoration of a saluting battery in London, to take part in ceremonial duties.
Originally the Troop was known as 'The Riding Troop', until October 24th 1947. Following an inspection (left), His Majesty signed the Troop visitors' book, he crossed out 'Riding' Troop, and wrote 'King's' Troop in its place! The scene is recreated in the opening sequence of the film.
Still based in its barracks in St. John's Wood, The King's Troop has been at the heart of British ceremonial life ever since.
